Clutter Acquires The Storage Fox For $152M

Culver City-based Clutter, which operates a technology-enabled, self storage service which picks up, stores, and retrieves your excess stuff on demand, has acquired an operator of self storage services in the New York market, The Storage Fox. According to Clutter, it paid $152M for the portfolio of The Storage Fox, which has four properties in New York, in Long Island City, Brooklyn, White Plains and Yonkers. Clutter said the real estate acquisition will allow it to expand its services in the New York market. Clutter says it now operates in seven, major market areas plus another 1,000 cities and towns across the county. The acquisition is not the first for Clutter this year--it also acquired another, on-demand storage startup, Omni, in May. Clutter's on-demand service allows users to request boxes, which are inventories and stored for users, and which allows users to request those boxes for retrieval from a smartphone app. Clutter says the acquisition of The Storage Fox now extends its services customers who need regular access to their belongings, such as small business owners, contractors, pharmaceutical representatives and teachers. Clutter has now raised $300M in total funding from such venture backers as SoftBank Vision Fund, Sequoia, Atomico, and GV. Locally, the company's backers include Amplify LA and former LowerMyBills founder Matt Coffin. Clutter's co-founder and CEO is Ari Mir. More information »
