Esri Creates Portal For Africa

Redland-based geographical information software (GIS) developer Esri said on Tuesday that it has rolled out a new, online portal specifically focused on its customers in Africa. According to the company, the portal provides access to its ArcGIS Online service as well as geographic data and imagery for Africa. Esri says it is targeting the African Union, African Development Bank, other international agencies, nongovernmental organizations (NGO), academia, businesses, and national government funds with the new portal. The company said those resources can be used for everything from economic development and climate adaptation to conservation and health care. Esri's software is used heavily by governments for mapping out information and for analysis of geographical information.
