Esri Links For Geocoding Improvements

Redlands-based geographical information systems (GIS) and mapping tools developer Esri has linked up with another company, BuildingFootprintUSA, the help improve the "geocoding" of locations within its ArcGIS platform. Geocoding is the translation of street addresses into latitude and longitude, part of the basic operations needed for mapping out locations in software. According to Esri, it will both incorporate BuildingFootprintUSA's geocoding and address matching, it will also tap the firm for a comprehensive training dataset to help improve its machine learning and artificial intelligence software. Esri said it expects building footprints for the United States and Canada to be available by the end of the year, with the addition of the United Kingdom and Brazil following shortly after. Esri's software tools are widely used for mapping out information, particularly at the government level and in the enterprise.
