Overwatch League Staffers Cut At Activision

Activision Blizzard has reportedly laid off around 50 esports staff, as part of a potential overhaul of the Overwatch League, according to reports today. The reports cite a former staffer saying that the company may use a "skeleton crew" to finish off the Overwatch League and World Series of Warzone series, but may be ending its city-based franchise format for e-sports. That mode was based on the professional sports team franchise model. A report on whether or not to continue that model is reported to be set for teams. It's unclear what those cuts mean locally in Southern California.
