GDC Pulls Award To LA's Nolan Bushnell, After #MeToo Protests

Los Angeles investor and entrepreneur Nolan Bushnell will no longer receive the "Pioneer Award" from the Game Developer's Conference, after a flap over Bushnell's description in a book of a "wild" atmosphere at Atari in the 1970's, including behavior which has been brought to light in recent months over sexual harassment in the workplace. According to the GDC, it will no longer be presenting the Pioneer Award, but instead will dedicate the award to honor the "pioneering and unheard voices of the past." The GDC said its award committee decided the award "should reflect the values of today's game industry". Nolan Bushnell, in a statement on Twitter, said, "I applaud the GDC for ensuring that their institution reflects what is right, specifically with regards to how people should be treated in the workplace." He also apologized for his actions.
