Ice Energy Extends Energy Storage Product To Homeowners, Homebuilders

Costa Mesa-based Ice Energy, which develops an energy storage system used for saving energy used for air conditioning, has launched a new product specifically aimed at homeowners and builders. According to Ice Energy, it has rolled out a new product called Ice Cub, a hybrid air conditioning and energy storage system specifically for California homeowners and homebuilders. The system replace conventional, outdoor 5-ton air condensing units which store and freeze ice, through a water tank and heat exchanger, enabling energy saving of as much as $1500 a year. The company said that users who already have solar photovoltaic systems can use excess production from those PV systems to create ice, which can be used later for air conditoning. The company said the system qualifies for California's "Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP)" rebate, which makes the system less that what a conventional air conditioning system would cost. Ice Energy has previously been selling its systems into the commercial market, and also working with utilities for demand generation programs. The venture backed firm is backed by Argo Infrastructure Partners.
