Pixxel Finds $36M For Hyperspectral Satellites

Los Angeles- and Bangalore, India-based Pixxel announced this morning that it has raised $36M in a Series B funding round. The funding came from Google, plus existing investors Radical Ventures, Lightspeed, Blume Ventures, growx, Sparta and Athera. The company said it is working on building a consteallation of high resolution hyperspectral satellites, aimed at monitoring emissions, water pollution, gas leaks, oil spills, soil composition, forest biodiversity and crop health. The company hopes to launch 6 satellites by the end of next year. Pixxel was cofounded by two then-20-year-olds Awais Ahmed and Kshitij Khandelwal. The company has an office in El Segundo.
