Tinder Can't Charge Older Users More, Says Court

Los Angeles-based dating app developer Tinder should not be allowed to charge extra for older users to use the app, according to an appeal court ruling, issued Monday. According to the Court of Appeal of the State of California, Second Appellate District, which is located in Los Angeles, Tinder's pricing scheme violates age discrimination laws in California. The ruling came in a lawsuit, filed by the Plaintiff, Allan Candelore, in a class action suit on behalf of consumers over 30 years old who were required to pay $19.99 a month for Tinder Plus, nearly double the $9.99 or $14.99 per month charged to users less than 30 years old. Candelore had alleged that Tinder's pricing was age discrimination under the Unrah Civil Rights Act and the Unfair Competition Law. Tinder launched its Tinder Plus service--which gives users premium features--back in March of 2015.
