United Scope Acquired By L Squared Capital Partners

Irvine-based United Scope, a maker of microscopes and accessories which operates under the name AmScope, has been acquired by private equity investor L Squared Capital Partners, via a majority recapitalization. Financial details of the transaction were not announced. United Scope sells its products to the education market, life sciences, scientific research, and industrial inspection markets. The companies said the funding will go towards international expansion strategy, product development efforts, and accretive acquisitions. As part of the recapitalization, L Squared said it has appointed Brad Staley as CEO of the company, and Jim Butler as the CFO of the company. Bernard Luthi, Lance Stern, and Ron Huberman have all joined United Scope's board as a result of the deal. United Scope had been founded and was owned by Frank Dai.
