DARPA Funds Optical Network Effort

The Defense Advanced Research Project has funded a team of researchers to the tune of $6.3M to develop new technologies to advance optical router capacity. The team, led by UCSB and including researchers at Santa Barbara-based Agility Communications, Calient Networks, Cisco Systems, JDS Uniphase, and Stanford, will work over the next four years to develop and demonstrate all-optical technologies and systems that route data packets.
