DigitalGlobe Satellite Successfully Launched From Vandenberg

Satellite mapping company DigitalGlobe successfully launched its latest earth imaging satellite, Worldview-4, into space, on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket on Friday morning from Vandenberg Air Force Base. Residents of Santa Barbara and Ventura County might have been able to see the launch, if they were looking in the right direction around 10:30 a.m. PST. The successful launch had originally been scheduled for July, but was delayed due to a wildfire on the base, which is in Lompoc. That fire also affected SpaceX operations which are at Vandenberg. California is still in the grips of a now long running drought, which has driven numerous wildfires and is drying out reservoirs.
