    ESRI Extends Online Mapping Services

Redland-based ESRI, a provider of GIS tools and software, said this week that it has upgraded its online web services tool. ArcWeb Services 2006 is a web-based, subscription mapping tool and API that allows developers to integrate mapping into any Web-based application. The company has added Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) APIs, a REST API for URL-based requests, a toolkit specifically built around Java 2 Platform Micro Edition, custom maps, and mobile location services support. ESRI has also added route finding, additional mapping data suchas business listings, and better administration of the web services.
