FreedomPop Offers Up Free Voice, Text, Data Service

Los Angeles-based FreedomPop announced this morning that it has launched a free, mobile service which not only includes broadband data, but also includes free voice and texting. According to FreedomPop, its new phone service will provide unlimited texting, 200 free anytime voice minutes, along with 500 MBs of 4G data to users on Android phones. The new service comes as FreedomPop continues to try to disrupt the current model of high priced mobile phone service. The company is using voice-over-IP technology over cellular connectings--through a deal with textPlus--to provide the new voice service. The company's network is built on top of 4G data from Clearwire and Sprint. FreedomPop, which is led by STephen stokols, said it expects the service to be available on serveral popular Android phones later this summer.
