Ixia Takes On P2P Simulation
Calabasas-based Ixia, a provider of test systems for testing IP networks, said Wednesday that the firm has rolled out new support for simulating peer-to-peer traffic. Ixia said its new IxLoad P2P product will allow service providers to see the effect of P2P traffic on its networks, and also allows network equipment manufacturers to detect and classify P2P traffic. According to Ixia, P2P traffic produces between 30 to 60 percent of worldwide Internet traffic. The firm's new product simulates the creation of real-world, P2P traffic flows. P2P traffic is the result of such things as peer-to-peer file swapping software, high bandwidth video streaming, voice-over-IP software, instant messaging, and other software applications.
