JDS Uniphase Buys Agility Communications
JDS Uniphase said yesterday that it has agreed to acquire Santa Barbara-based Agility Communications. Agility Communications is a developer of tunable lasers used for optical networking. Terms were not disclosed. Agility Communications has 90 employees, and will expand the JDS Uniphase line of tunable lasers and transponders. Agility Communications provides transponders to Siemens, Marconi, Mahi Networks, Tropic Networks, ECI, and other communications hardware developers. The firm has raised over $180M in venture funding from slew of venture firms, including Siemens Venture Capital, Mitsubishi, General Bank, Nissho Electronics, London Pacific Assurance Limited, General Motors Investment Management, and others.
