Software Council Names Annual Award Winners
The Software Council of Southern California last night recognized the winners in its annual Software Industry Awards events. The organization named Matt Coffin, CEO of LowerMyBills.com as Software Entrepreneur of the Year, Mitch Lasky, CEO of JAMDAT Mobile as Software CEO of the Year, and Epicor Software as Software Company of the Year. USC Appoints Head of Commercialization Institute
The University of Southern California has named a new director to head the new, USC Mark and Mary Stevens Institute for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization. The university said today that Krisztina Holly, the former executive director of MIT's Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation, will head the new institute. Movielink, Microsoft Team On Mobile Device Content
Santa Monica-based Movielink and Microsoft have teamed up on a content deal, where Movielink will offer its premium Hollywood content to users of Microsoft's Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC) devices. Movielink will provide video content from Microsoft's UMPC Program Launcher. Microsoft's UMPC is software which runs on the full version of Windows XP with wireless connectivity, and allows users to download and view movies on portable devices. Movielink is a provider of broadband video rental.

Versora, Codeweavers Team on Linux Migration
Santa Barbara-based Versora, and Linux consultancy CodeWeavers said yesterday that the two companies have teamed up to provide a new bundle of software targeted at migrating Windows desktops to Linux. The new bundle of Versora's Progression Desktop tool along with CrossOver Office allows companies to migrate their data, application, and system settings to Linux and run applications such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop. Iomega Introduces Desktop Autoloader
San Diego-based Iomega has introduced a new desktop autoloader for its REV removable hard drives. The firm said today that its new desktop autoloader is targeted at small business backup and archive duties. Iomega's REV drives provide up to 35GB of storage. The company's new autoloader supports up to eight removable REV drives in a compact desktop form factor, and supports USB 2.0.
