Snap Rolls Out Search Previews
Pasadena-based Snap.com, which is operated by Idealab company Perfect Market Technologies, has rolled out a new, search preview capability to its search engine. Snap.com unveiled a new web site this morning, showing a visual image of search results on its search page. The company's new web site provides a preview of web pages when users search on a term, and with Microsoft Internet Explorer also includes a plugin that allows users to interact directly with those web sites. deCODE, Illumina In DNA Alliance
deCODE Genetics and San Diego-based Illumina have entered into a strategic alliance, said today that the two companies will work together to commercialize DNA-based diagnostics. The two companies said that they will initiate work on molecular diagnostics for heart attack, type 2 diabetes, and other conditions. The two firms will use Illumina's upcoming SNP genotyping platform and deCode's population genetics resources to develop diagnostics for various genetic disorders.

Storage Companies Build Petabyte Storage Array For MIT
Irvine-based Zetera, Seagate, Bell Microproducts, and Marvell are expected to announce today that they are building what they say is the largest and highest performing data storage array in the world at the Media Lab at MIT. The companies are announcing today a 1.4 petabyte storage array based on Zetera's hardware, for use in collecting video and audio data for a research project designed to better understand early childhood cognitive development. Mergere Rolls Out Open Source Maven Support
Marina Del Rey-based Mergere, which is commercializing the popular Apache Maven and Apache Continuum open source software projects, has rolled out its distribution of those projects. Mergere said today that its Mergere Maestro platform provides automated integration, testing, packaging, and reporting capabilities for development projects. Vitesse Expands China Operations
Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor has appointed a new, country manager to manage its Chinese operations. The developer of high speed semiconductors said that it has appointed Jay Zhang as its China Country Manager. Zhang will manage the firm's sales and customer support in the region.
