Qualcomm To Get $2.3B From Nokia Over Patents
San Diego-based Qualcomm is set to receive $2.3B (1.7 Euros) in a patent licensing deal with Nokia, Nokia disclosed quietly in its third quarter results this week. The firms, which had been battling over patent infringement lawsuits, reached an agreement in July to give Nokia a license to use Qualcomm's patents, but had not disclosed financial terms of the deal.

Total Immersion Teams With Interpublic
Total Immersion, a French firm providing technology which interacts with a live video feed to provide "augmented reality," said earlier this week that it has opened up a new lab in Los Angeles. X Prize Foundation Targets Tuberculosis, Gets Gates Grant
The X Prize Foundation announced Thursday that it has received a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to develop a prize focused on the effective diagnosis of tuberculosis in the developing world. Amount of the grant was not disclosed. The foundation said the new prize would go to promote ways to promote better management of tuberculosis, which the group said is the world's second most lethal infectious disease. Cytori Gets $15M Loan
San Diego-based Cytori Therapeutics disclosed earlier this week that it has scored a $15M loan facility from GE Healthcare Financial Services and Silicon Valley Bank. The firm, which develops products for the regenerative medicine market, said that the loan facility is made up for a term loan of $7.5M, plus the option to exercise an additional $7.5M term loan before December 12th. Cornerstone OnDemand Adds Social Networking Features
Santa Monica-based Cornertone OnDemand, a provider of software-as-a-service tools for human resources management, said this week that it has added new social networking features to the firm's product. According to Cornerstone, it has introduced a new product called Cornerstone Connect, which will provide workforce collaboration to its customers. Mojix Expands RFID Line
Los Angeles-based Mojix has expanded the firm's RFID products, the firm said this week. According to Mojix, it has expanded its line of RFID transmitters, adding a new line of products specifically for mobile, handheld, and outdoor use, as well as a multiple port device to supply power to passive RFID tags. Ethertronics Names Manufacturing VP
San Diego-based Ethertronics, a developer of embedded antennas for the wireless industry, announced this week that it has appointed Dr. Joe Wu as Vice President of Global Manufacturing operations at the firm. Ethertronics said that Wu joins the firm from LightPath Technologies. Wu will be responsible for development and expansion of Ethertronics' Chinese Manufacturing Center.
