Elon Musk Unveils Hyperloop, A New Vision For Transportation
Not one to be shy about grand visions, technology mogul Elon Musk unveiled his plans this afternoon for Hyperloop, a system for transporting people from Los Angeles to San Francisco in mere minutes, using aluminum pods which are sent at speeds of up to 800 miles per hour between the cities. Newegg Hits Retail With Pop-up Store
City of Industry-based Newegg, the big online electronics retailer, is making its first foray into the physical, retail market, with a new pop-up store. According to Newegg, it will launch a pop-up store from August 16-18th in Thousand Oaks, California, at The Oaks shopping center. The store is the company's first, ever pop-up store. Naki Laundry Expands Into San Jose, Eyes San Francisco
Naki Laundry, the smartphone driven startup which has been offering up pickup, cleaning, and delivery of laundry, has expanded into San Jose, and is looking to expand to San Francisco next month, according to the company. The startup--which currently offers services in Santa Monica, Santa Barbara, and a number of other locations, also said it plans to expand services shortly to Brentwood, Westwood, Beverly Hills and West LA. Entangled Media Raises $3.5M For Younity
Santa Monica-based Entangled Media Corp., which is behind the younity personal cloud service, announced this morning that it has raised $3.545M in a seed funding round. The funding came from Crosslink Capital, Draper Associates, PROfounders Capital, Lowercase Capital, Michael Birch, Tekton Ventures and Knight & Bishop, along with Kamran Pourzanjani, Brian Lee, Brad Jones, and other local angels. Western Digital Backs Tegile
Irvine-based disk drive maker Western Digital has made a strategic investment in hybrid storage array developer Tegile, as part of a $35M funding round. Tegile, which is based in Silicon Valley, said it raised $35M in its Series C from Meritech Capital Partners, Western Digital, and SanDisk, for its hybrid storage product. WebMetro Acquisition Completes
San Dimas-based search and digital marketing firm WebMetro is now officially part of TeleTech Holdings, TeleTech said this morning. The companies had announced the acquisition in July. Financial terms of the acquisition have not been announced by the company. WebMetro becomes part of TeleTech's Customer Growth Services division, Revana.

Marlin Equity Partners Buys 6N Systems
Los Angeles-based private equity investor Marlin Equity Partners announced this morning that it has acquired 6N Systems, a developer of financial and clinical software aimed at the long-term and post-acute care market. Financial details of the buy were not disclosed. Edmunds.com's Anwyl Retires
Santa Monica-based online car shopping and auto information site Edmunds.com said Friday that Vice Chairman Jeremy Anwyl has retired from the company. Anwyl had been at Edmunds.com since January of 2000, and was CEO of the company starting in 2007 until a couple of years ago. Edmunds.com said that Anwyl will continue in the automotive industry by consulting through Marketec Systems. Anwyl will also provide strategic consulting to Edmunds.com.

Boingo Wireless Bolsters Board
Los Angeles-based Boingo Wireless, the provider of Wi-Fi networking services, announced this morning that it has appointed Mike Finely to its board of directors. Finley is senior vice president of Global Business Development at Qualcomm. According to Boingo Wireless, Finley has nearly 30 years of experience in the wireless telecommunications area, having been an executive with such companies as Verizon, Sprint, Nextel, and AirTouch Cellular.
