Evercar Shuts Down, Suspends Services
Los Angeles-based Evercar has quietly shut down its service, and no longer is offering up its on-demand, car sharing services. On a notice on the company's website, the company said its last day was October 10th, and that it has suspended all member accounts. The company said that it processed its last remaining invoices on October 13th. The company said, in a notice posted on its website, that "due to unforeseen circumstances, we will not be able to deliver that service in the near term." Everc (More info...)

NEOGOV Snags Funding From Warburg Pincus
El Segundo-based NEOGOV, the developer of human resources automation software for the public sector, has raised a round of growth equity from private equity investor Warburg Pincus. Size of the investment round was not announced. NEOGOV, which is led by Damir Davidovic, was founded in 2000, and has not previously received institutional funding. Heal Finds $26.9M More In Funding To Expand Access To On-Demand Doctors
Santa Monica-based Heal, the on-demand doctor's house call startup, said this morningg that it has raised $26.9M in a Series A funding. The funding was led by Tull investment Group, and also included Breyer Capital, Paul Jacobs (Qualcomm), David Ellison (Skydance Media), Hashtag One, and Slow Ventures. Heal says it has now raised $40M in total funding. Sofinnova, With Offices In San Diego, Lands $650M For Biotech Investments
Biotech venture capital investor Sofinnova, which has offices in San Diego, announced that it has raised $650M in its newest fund, Sofinnova Venture Partners X. The firm said it closed the fund at its hard cap of $650M, after exceeding its initial funding target of $550M. Sofinnova says it invests in biotechnology companies that are developing drugs that address high unmet medical needs and improve the lives of patients. Science 37 Raises $31M For Clinical Trial Platform
Los Angeles-based Science 37, a startup developing a technology platform aimed at enabling clinical trials, said this morning that it has raised $31M in a Series B financing round. The funding was led by Redmile Group, and also included Lux Capital, dRx Capital, and Sanofi Genzyme BioVentures. As part of the funding, Rob Faulkner of Redmile joins the company's board. Comcast Ventures Sets Up Shop In Santa Monica
Comcast Ventures, the venture capital arm of Comcast Corporation, announced this morning that it has opened up an office in Santa Monica, and hired on Dinesh Moorjani as Managing Director in the new office. Moorjani was previously Executive-in-Residence at Warburg Pincus, and also was founder and CEO of Hatch Labs. KLiP Launches Weatherproof Case For Raspberry Pi, Arduino
Santa Barbara-based startup KLiP Industries said this morning that it has launched its first product, a weatherproof case for the popular Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and BeagleBone embedded computers. Enevate Names CFO
Irvine-based Enevate, which is developing advanced Lithium-ion batteries, said this morning that it has named Sameer V. Rao as its new Chief Financial Officer. Rao was previously at MaxLinear, serving as an executive in the finance area, and also has served at Broadcom and PRTM. He got his start in the engineering side of the business at Rockwell International and Conexant Systems, according to Enevate. Social Reality Sets Kathy Ireland As Branding Advisor
Los Angeles-based Internet advertising company Social Reality announced this morning that it has named Kathy Ireland as its new Chief Branding Advisor. According to the firm, Ireland will also help the company link with other executives in the media, entertainment and advertising industries to serve on an Advisory Board. Ireland is head of the lifestyle brand kathy ireland Worldwide, which Social Reality said had sales in the excess of $2.5 billion in 2012.
