Ten Years Ago, The Self Driving Car Revolution Started In Victorville

Ten years ago this week--on November 3, 2007--the self driving car revolution was launched in Southern California--in all places, Victorville, at the DARPA Urban Challenge. The competition, part of a series of competitions that were part of the DARPA Grand Challenge, spurred the growth of the technology which is now at the core of every self-driving car team now working on the market . Bloomberg published an in depth look at how that competition is behind nearly every self driving car team working today in the industry. The competition was held in Victorville at the old George Air Force Base, now the Southern California Logistics Airport. Image: one of the competitors, Terramax, in the DARPA Grand Challenge in 2007.
