Vativ Ships Chip For 10G Ethernet Over Copper

San Diego-based Vativ said this morning that it is now sampling a single-chip, CMOS 10-Gigabit Ethernettransceiver for copper cabling. The startup said that its new chip works for transmitting high speed signal over existing CAT5e or CAT6 unshielded twisted pair cable. The company is targeting OEMs and system vendors developing high speed Ethernet switches and servers for the enterprise market. Vativ is competing against like Irvine-based Solarflare, which is also developing Gigabit Ethernet over copper transceivers. Vativ is backed by Forrest Binkley & Brown, Innoval, Intel Capital, Mission Ventures, and Redpoint.
