    Zinc Matrix Rolls Out Batteries

Camarillo-based Zinc Matrix Power announced last week that it is demonstrating its new silver-zinc rechargeable battery technology at a trade show this week. Zinc Matrix is developing silver-zinc batteries, which are an alternative to mainstream lithium-ion batteries typically used in portable applications. Zinc Matrix Power's batteries are based on water-based chemistry, which the company says is safer than lithium-ion, and has a higher energy density. Lithium ion batteries have come under fire recently with recalls of batteries from Dell and Apple, due to defects in the manufacturing process at supplier Sony. Zinc Matrix is venture backed by Intel and the US Army's venture capital fund, OnPoint Technology.
