San Diego-based A-Life Medical, a firm which developed software to help physicians to properly code the billing of medical procedures, has been acquired by a unit of UnitedHealth Group, the firms said Tuesday. According to Ingenix, the UnitedHealth unit, it is acquiring A-Life Medical to accelerate its development of advanced coding solutions for physicians and hospitals. The two were already in a strategic alliance. Financial terms of the deal were not announced. A-Life's software was used to decipher clinical documentation and diagnoses, and determine the proper procedures and codes for properly billing insurance firms.
