Amgen Expands In Rhode Island

Thousand Oaks-based biotech giant Amgen is expanding its footprint in Rhode Island, saying on Tuesday that it is opening a new biomanufacturing plant at its West Greenwich, R.I. campus. According to Amgen, the new plant will manufacture products for both the U.S. and global markets. Amgen says it will invest up to $200M in the new, 120,000 square foot manufacturing plant, which it says will create approximately 150 additional "highly-skilled" manufacturing positions at its campus there. Amgen has had a manufacturing location in West Greenwich since 2002. According to the biotech firm, the new "next-generation" biomanufacturing plant will have half the operating cost of a traditional biomanufacturing plant.
