Bird Sees Increase In Rides Over Memorial Day

In good news for Santa Monica-based Bird--but perhaps, not so good for spread of the COVID-19 pandemic--the Southern California e-scooter provider said that it has seen a "sharp increase" in the number of rides being taken on its scooters leading up to Memorial Day. Bird said that it also has been seeing "significantly longer rides" since shelter in place measures began to lift in late April. According to Bird, over the past month, it has seen a sustained increase in trip durations of more than 50%. Bird said it initially thought it might be people looking to be outdoors experiencing fresh air and open space, but now suspects the surge in rides are people with public transit concerns.
