| Designer Technologies: Is 3-D Printing Creating a New Entrepreneurial Ecosystem? Caltech Entrepreneurs Forum. Not too long ago, 3-D printing was limited to the creation of an expensive and very fragile white starch model. Now it is possible to print in everything from ABS plastics to metals to chocolate! Home printers are available and evolving rapidly as the printer designers print their own parts for the next generation designs (and in some cases, get royalties on the designs when someone orders a print).
