CoreLogic: Hurricane Florence Threatens 759,000 Homes With Storm Damage

Irvine-based property information provider CoreLogic says that 758,657 homes are under threat of storm surge--just one of the possible threats--ahead of Hurricane Florence, in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. CoreLogic, which provides property information, analytics, and other data, released the numbers late Monday afternoon, saying that the reconstruction value of those homes are approximately $170.2 billion. Hurricane Florence is currently a Category 4 storm and is expected to hit the U.S. in the early hours of Friday morning. Although extremely damaging, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)'s National Hurricane Center (NHC) has said that storm surge is only one of the hazards faced by residents of the East Coast in the storm; residents also face "life-threatening" freshwater flooding and hurricane-force winds. Hurricane Florence is, surprisingly, not the only cyclone threatening the U.S. right now: Typhoon Mangkhut just hit the U.S. territory of Guam and the Northern Marianas Islands; Tropical Storm Olivia is set to hit Hawaii sometime today; and Tropical Storm Isaac has some possibility of heading towards Puerto Rico.
