Pasadena-based Desktop Factory, the Idealab start-up which is developing a low-cost, 3D printer, said today that it has begun a reservation program for customers interested in its products. The firm said that it will begin taking deposits on the company's upcoming Desktop Factory 125ci product. The product takes aim at the 3D fabrication market, which has previously been limited to high end engineering firms due to high hardware costs. Desktop Factory said began taking 10 percent deposits on the $4,995 unit today; the firm said that it has initial shipments planned for 2008.
