    DivX, Broadcom Certify HDTV Chip

San Diego-based DivX and Irvine-based Broadcom have certified a Broadcom HDTV chip for DivX support, DivX said today. According to DivX, Broadcom's BCM7405 system-on-a-chip has been certified for HD DivX support. The Broadcom chip is used by satellite, cable, and set-top box manufacturers to develop their hardware. DivX said the certification means that the Broadcom chip can support playback of HDTV content encoded in DivX 1080p format.
