    Evolution Robotics Lands Beta Customer

Pasadena-based Evolution Robotics has landed a customer for its LaneHawk visual scanning system for shopping carts. Evolution said that Pathmark Stores is testing the company's system to reduce bottom of the basket loss in its stores. Evolution uses automated visual pattern recognition to identify products in shopping carts without scanning bar codes, and automatically include them in point of sale. Pathmark said that it is conducting pilots in three select stores over the summer. Evolution Robotics also provides visual pattern recognition and robotics systems for commercial and consumer use. Evolution Robotics is backed by Idealab.
