San Diego-based Figure 8 Wireless has signed a partnership agreement with Freescale Semiconductor to provide its ZigBee protocol software on Freescale semiconductors. The partnership calls for Figure 8's Wireless ZigBee protocol software to ship with the Freescale MC13192 data modem and associated controller. The new ZigBee (802.15.4) protocol provides a low cost wireless protocol aimed at monitoring, automation, and control applications for the home and in industrial environments. Freescale is the silicon spinoff of Motorola, and is also an investor in Figure 8 Wireless. Other investors in Figure 8 include Avalon Ventures, Cardinal Venture Capital, and Viterbi Group.
