Vizio Gets Favorable Ruling In Patent Dispute

Irvine-based Vizio, a maker of HDTV and other consumer electronics, reported late Thursday that the firm has received a favorable ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C. The firm said that the ruling, which covers a patent dispute with Funai Electric Co., found that certain "work-around" versions of Vizio's digital television products do not infringe upon a patent held by Funai Electri Co., Ltd. Funai had earlier won a decision from the International Trade Commission to bar certain Vizio products from entering the United States. Vizio's "work-around" products had been created in response to the patent lawsuit by Funai Electric, which won an ITC ruling last June barring importation of certain Vizio products. The patent in question is U.S. Patent No., 6,115,074.
