GUESS Links With Alibaba On AI-Powered Retail Store Effort

Los Angeles-based fashion brand Guess is making a move into the world of artificial intelligence, with a link with Chinese technology and e-commerce giant Alibaba. According to Guess, it is working with Alibaba on Alibaba's FashionAI project, whcih the two said will "provide customers with a more enriching shopping experience that combines online and offline shopping behaviors." According to Guess, the work with Alibaba includes a "concept store" which features "smart racks", "smart mirrors" and "next-generation" fitting rooms which uses AI to suggest closthing and accessories for customers from the GUESS product line and others. Financial details of the link was not announced. The AI-powered retail store currently operates only on the campus of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU); it's unclear if the technology will extend outside of that test to other locations or the United States.
