ICEYE Scores Contract From NRO

Irvine-based ICEYE, a satellite developer which is launching a constellation of satellites to monitor the earth using radar, says it has received a contract from the National Reconnaissance Officer (NRO). According to ICEYE, the contract will enable it to participate in the NRO's evaluation of commercial, remote sensing companies operating synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites. Financial details of the contract were not announced. ICEYE said it launched its very first satellite earlier this month on a SpaceX launch. The company says its satellites are targeted for use in insurance, natural catastrophe response and recovery, security, maritime monitoring and finance. The company's satellites differ from most existing satellites, in that it can acquire imaging through clouds; the company competes against similar satellite companies like Capella Space.
