Napster Branches Into Ringtones
Los Angeles-based Napster, the online music division of Roxio, announced that the company is making a foray into the downloadable ringtone market in a deal with Dwango Wireless, a publisher of mobile entertainment content. Napster will roll out Napster Mobile, a service which allows wireless access to ring tones. The ring tone download service will be avilable through Napster's PC-based digital music service. The company said that the service will be rolled out across North America to all major acarriers. Ring tone downloads have been a hot part of the wireless market, as wireless phone users have been willing to pay for song snippets from their favorite artists for use as ring tones.
