QS Labs Adds Exec
Irvine-based QS Labs announced that it has appointed Joe Lindsay as President and CTO. QS Labs is developing compliance process management and content management platforms for the life sciences industry. Lindsay is a co-founder of eBuilt, and also served at AdForce and IBM. Linsay will be responsible for business and product development.

Strix Upgrades Wireless Infrastructure Product
Calabasas-based Strix Systems announced yesterday that it has upgraded its wireless networking infrastructure systems to include new quality of service, virtual networks, and security and management features. The company's Access/One Network version 2.0 provides wireless mesh networking for companies, and supports both wireless and voice over wireless LAN capability. Verari Ships 8-Way AMD Opteron Server
San Diego-based Verari Systems launched a new system based on AMD's 8-Way Opteron processor today. The new Octet 8-Way AMD Opteron Processor-Based SMP Server supports up to eight AMD Opteron 800 Series processors, 64GB of memory, and eight SATA hard drives. The company is targeting high performance applications such as electronic design automation (EDA) with the server. Verari focused on developing high performance rackmount and blade server systems.

Movielink, BestBuy Team on Downloads
Santa Monica-based Movielink (www.movielink.com) and Best Buy have joined to offer Movielink download cards at all of Best Buy's nationwide locations, according to the companies. Movielink Movie Cards will be available both as a free gift with purchase of Microsoft Media Center PCs, or separately as a $20 gift card. Homestore Pays $1.2M in Back Wages
Westlake Village-based Homestore (www.homestore.com) reported this week in its quarterly earnings that it had to pay $1.2M in back wages to its employees. The U.S. Department of Labor had alleged that Homestore had misclassified its workers as exempt from overtime, and had paid the employees straight time for overtime hours. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the 435 employees involved sold advertising displayed on Homestore's Realter.com, Homebuilder.com, and RentNet.com web sites. The (More info...)

ClariPhy Communications Raises $8M Series A Funding
Irvine-based ClariPhy Communications has raised an initial round of funding for its high speed communications ICs. ClariPhy raised $8M from Norwest Venture Partners (NVP), Onset Capital, and Allegis Capital. ClariPhy is targeting 10-Gbit/s optical networks with its silicon. Jonathan Funk of Allegis Capital and Robert Abbott of Norwest Venture Partners have joined the company's board.
