PeopleSupport Names CIO
Los Angeles-based PeopleSupport has named a new Chief Information Officer. PeopleSupport, a provider of offshore business process outsourcing, said that it has named George Hines as CIO of the firm. Hines was most recently EVP Operations and CTO for ChaseCom, where he managed telephony and call center systems. PeopleSupport is a provider of offshore outsourced customer management, accounts receivable, and back office services based on facilities in the Phillipines.

Pacific Digital Frames Windows Vista
Torrance-based digital photo frame provider Pacific Digital said this week that it is working with Microsoft to include its digital picture frame features alongside Microsoft's Windows Vista release. Pacific Digital's digital picture frames allow consumers to display digital photos on a photo-frame like LCD display. Windows Vulnerability Spreads Via IM
The latest Microsoft Windows vulnerability, a hole in Microsoft's handling of Windows Meta File (WMF) data, is spreading by instant messaging, according to the SANS Institute, a computer security monitoring organization. Microsoft has been caught off guard by this latest attack on the Windows operating system, and has said that it will issue a patch on the 10th, although there are worms spreading now using the vulnerability. Eidogen-Sertanty Licenses Software To Cephalon
San Diego-based Eidogen-Sertanty, a provider of computation drug discovery informatics software, said today that it has licensed its software and databases to Celphalon. The firm said that Cephalon will access its Kinase Knowledgebase, Target Informatics Platform, and EVE Comparitive Visualization software. Financial terms were not disclosed. Qualcomm Buys Berkana Wireless
San Diego-based Qualcomm said this morning that it has acquired Campbell-based Berkana Wireless, a developer of RF CMOS silicon for cellular and other wireless applications. Qualcomm will pay $56M in cash for Berkana. The firm also said that it would take a $10M charge related to in-process research and development upon closing. Entropic Raises $25M
San Diego-based Entropic Communications has raised $25M in a Series C round of venture funding. The firm said that the new round will go toward accelerating adoption of its home networking entertainment chipset. Staccato Finds $18M
San Diego-based Staccato Communications has garnered another round of funding for its wireless CMOS chip. Staccato raised $18M in a Series C venture funding led by Intel Capital's Digital Home Fund and Vision Capital.
