Digital Orchid Raises $6M
San Diego-based Digital Orchid, a developer of real-time wireless applications and mobile content platforms, said this morning that it had raised $6M in new venture funding. The company's series B was led by Shepherd Ventures, and included participation by NeoCarta Ventures. Digital Orchid said that the funds will be used to accelerate its global growth. LightPointe Adds Wireless Product
San Diego-based optical networking firm LightPointe has introduced a new product to its lineup. The firm's new FlightExpress 100 is designed for connecting two or more buildings within 200 meters or less, and delivers Fast Ethernet performance over a free-space optical transmission system. LightPointe's products are used for connecting campus buildings and LANs without wiring, using free space optics technology.

Websense Upgrades Security Software
San Diego-based Websense announced this morning that it is planning a number of new features for its WebSense Web Security Suite software release. The firm said its second quarter release, version 6.2, will include a number of features targeted at botnets, ability to manage non-port 80 HTTP traffic, integration with Microsoft's Windows XP Firewall, and better support for Cisco Network Admissions Control. WebSense is a provider of Internet security tools and software.

JAMDAT Shareholders Approve Acquisition By EA
Los Angeles-based JAMDAT said that its stockholders have approved its earlier announced acquisition by Electronic Arts. The firm said that its stockholders approved the acquisition Friday. The deal calls for each stockholder to receive $27.00 in cash for each JAMDAT share they own at close of the transaction. The total acquisition price is approximately $680M. The transaction is expected to close this month.

Sabre Buys Los Angeles Travel Software Provider
Sabre Travel Network today said that it has acquired Los Angeles-based TRAMS, a provider of mid- and back-office software for travel agencies. Terms were not disclosed. Sabre said that the acquisition will allow it to serve the end to end needs of a broad spectrum of travel agencies, including small and mid-sized leisure focused agencies. TRAMS provides customer relationship management (CRM) tools and agency marketing services for travel agencies. Sabre is one of the dominant operators of travel (More info...)
