SkinMedica Raises $11M
Carlsbad-based SkinMedica has raised a Series E-1 round of funding, the firm said yesterday. The round was led by Montagu Newhall Associates, and included participation by existing investors Domain Associates, Apax Partners, Perseus-Soros Biopharmaceutical Fund, HealthCare Ventures, EuclidSR Partners and Montreux Equity Partners. SkinMedica is developing cosmeceuticals for the dermatology field. The firm has now raised over $90M in venture funding.

Tivo, DIRECTV Extend Agreement
Tivo and DIRECTV said today that the two companies have extended their agreement to provide TiVo's digital video recorder service to DIRECTV subscribers for three years. Tivo and DIRECTV, which provides satellite broadcast services to consumers, said that the agreement allows existing DIRECTV TiVo subscribers to continue to receive the Tivo service, and also calls for the two firms to not assert patent rights against the other. VU Games Ties Into Qualcomm
Los Angeles-based Vivendi Universal Games Mobile, a publisher of mobile game titles, announced this morning that it will develop wireless games for Qualcomm's BREW environment. VUG Mobile said that it will align with qualcomm on its publishing and distribution rollout program. Qualcomm's BREW environment is a leading software environment for developing wireless applications. VUG Mobile is developing mobile titles based on Crash Bandicoot, Empire Earth, and other popular entertainment titles.

WEBZEN Names CEO
WEBZEN, a South Korean online entertainment company, has appointed a new CEO of its US subsidiary. The firm said that it appointed Cindy Armstrong as CEO of its Los Angeles-based subsidiary, to spearhead its strategy to bring online games to the Western market. Armstrong joins from Sony Online Enteratinment, where she was VP of Business Development. Armstrong has also served at Nintendo, NES International, and Activition UK.

SOA Software Connects To Mainframes
Los Angeles-based SOA Software, a provider of Web Services and service-oriented-architecture (SOA) products, has rolled out a new release that adds connectivity to mainframes. SOA Software said that its new SOLA (Service Oriented Legacy Architecture) product connects web services into legacy mainframe environments. The firm said that its new product is being used by Merrill Lynch.

Citrix Gets Win At Reuters
Santa Barbara-based Citrix Online has scored a win at Reuters, saying that the news organization is using its remote access solution, GoToMyPC, for its laptops. Reuters is using GoToMyPC and GoToMeeting to provide secure access to its internal office applications. GoToMyPC provides remote access to a desktop computer from any Internet connection, and GoToMeeting is an online desktop sharing and conferencing application.

Targus Adds General Manager
Anaheim-based Targus, a manufacturer of notebook cases and accessories for the PC market, has appointed a new general manager. The firm said that it has appointed Jon Coleman as General Manager of the Americas. Coleman will oversee the company's 200 U.S., Canada, and Latin American employees. Coleman was most recently at Pfizer Consumer Healthcare.
