Apple Buys Silicon Color
San Diego-based Silicon Color, a provider of color correction software for Apple's Macintosh platform, has been acquired by Apple. According to Silicon Color, the assets of Silicon Color Technology, including its FinalTouch color correction software, was recently sold to Apple. A company representative also confirmed that the firm's software programmers and support personnel will be joining Apple as part of the asset sale. No other details of the acquisition were announced. Private Equity Fundraising Slows
Thomson Financial and the National Venture Capital Association reported Monday that private equity fundraising in the third quarter slowed, with both venture capital and buyout firms reducing the amount of funding raised. The groups report that in Q3, fifty-two venture capital funds raised $4.90 billion in funds, which was down from $13.4B in fund raised in Q2. MTV Networks Buys Quizilla.com
Viacom's MTV Networks said this morning that it has acquired Los Angeles-based Quizilla.com, an online user-generated community that allows teenage authors to share quizzes, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and other content, from Gorilla Nation. Practical Instruments Raises $8M
Pasadena-based Practical Instruments has raised $8M in a Series A financing, the firm said this morning. The round came from RockPort Capital Partners and Nth Power, which led the venture capital round, along with Trinity Ventures and Rincon Venture Partners. Practical Instruments is developing solar concentrators for the energy market. SimpleTech Acquires Gnutek
Santa Ana-based SimpleTech said this morning that it has acquired Gnutek, a maker of NAND-based solid state flash drives. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. UK-based Gnutek develops solid state drives used by companies enterprises for very fast storage of data. SimpleTech said that the acquisition would allow it to address the enterprise storage market's need for Flash-based drive solutions. Yahoo, CBS Partner On Local News
CBS Television and Yahoo's Santa Monica-based Media group said this morning that the companies have entered into an exclusive video syndication agreement, to bring local news video to Yahoo's properties. The firms said this morning that local news video from 16 of CBS's owned stations will be made available on Yahoo. NTT West, Strix To Network Japan
Calabasas-based Strix Systems is in a major deal to provide wireless mesh networking equipment to NTT, the firm said this morning. Strix said that it will provide NTT West, a subsidiary of Japanese telecommunications company NTT, with equipment to cover over 100 Japanese cities and to deliver service to a population of over 50 million. Sea Launch Targets Satellite Launch For XM
Long Beach-based commercial satellite delivery firm Sea Launch announced this morning that it is planning to launch its fifth mission for the year, the launch of a satellite for XM Satellite Radio. The XM-4 satellite is scheduled for launch on October 26th. Sea Launch develops ocean-based launch systems used to launch satellites into orbit. The satellite, built by Boeing, will provide satellite radio services to the continental US and parts of Canada.

Amp'd Rolls Out RAZR Based Phone
Los Angeles-based MVNO Amp'd Mobile has rolled out another handset for its youth-oriented cell phone service. The company has unveiled a MOTORAZR phone for its service, specially branded for the firm as the "Amp'd Edition". DATAllegro Integrates With IBM
Aliso Viejo-based DATAllegro has integrated the firm's data warehouse appliance with IBM's Information Server product, the firm announced Monday. DATAllegro's data warehouse appliance, which is used to accelerate and run complex data warehousing queries against databases, now interoperates with IBM's Information Server product, which is a software package used for data integration.

iStor Signs UK Distributor
Irvine-based iStor Networks, a provider of iSCSI network storage products, said today that it has signed on a UK-based master distributor for its products. axstor will distribute the firm's GigaStorATX products in the UK. iStor develops products used by VARs and others to create iSCSI and SATA-based storage systems.
