RF Nano Gets $1.5M In Series A
Orange County-based RF Nano, which is developing radio frequency devices, has received $1.5M in a Series A funding, in a venture round from Laguna Beach-based Okapi Ventures. RF Nano is focusing on improving RF and mixed signal electronics. The investment is the first by Orange County-based Okapi, which focuses on seed and early-stage information technology and life science companies in southern California.

OGPlanet Partners With WildTangent On MMOG
Los Angeles-based OGPlanet, a firm that is focused on bringing Korean games to the U.S. market, said this week that it is partnering with WildTangent to launch an online game channel focused on massively multiplayer online games. The two will collaborate on Albatross18, a golf simulation game, which will be distributed through WildTangent's network. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Websense Completes PortAuthority Buy
San Diego-based Websense said today that it has closed the acquisition of Palo Alto-based PortAuthority Technologies. The acquisition, which was announced in late December, was worth $90M in cash. PortAuthority provides information leak prevention software targeted at the enterprise.

Demand Media Taps Author For New Site
Santa Monica-based Demand Media has tapped author Allana Baroni for a joint venture, GetSocial.com, a website that will showcase Baroni's work using Demand Media's web platform. The firm said today that the new site is a result of an alliance between portfolio site eHow.com and Baroni. eHow is a web site that provides expert and user-generated advice and information on a wide range of topics. Baroni is author of "Flirtini: A Guide To Mixing and Mingling".

Divx Releases Authoring Tool
San Diego-based Divx has released a new software for authoring Divx content video files, the firm said Monday. The new tool, DivX Author, allows users to create DivX files, menus, chapters, subtitles, and audio tracks. DivX said the software was created in partnership with Pegasys/TMPG. DivX develops video compression and decompression software incorporated into DVD players and other products.

BridgeCo Shows Reference Platforms
Los Angeles-based semiconductor firm BridgeCo announced yesterday at CES three new audio reference platforms based on the firm's audio processor and software. The firm is targeting electronic OEMs and ODMs looking to create audio products and portable music players. The three reference designs include a WiFi wireless audio player with iPod dock; a combined FM radio with clock/alarm and audio; and a full color graphical UI platform. Entropic Gets Win With Westell
San Diego-based Entropic Communications has scored a design win with its home networking chipset, saying today that Westell has integrated its c.Link-270 chipset into Westell's new broadband router. Westell is using the Entropic silicon to allow for connection of its broadband routers via coaxial cabling. The new Westell product acts as an IP video gateway.

Staccato Unveils UWB Hardware
San Diego-based Staccato Communications said Monday that it has unveiles a Wafer Chip Scale Package (WCSP) based on its Ripcord single chip wireless USB solution. The new form factor chip allows hardware designers to incorporate Staccato's technology as part of wafer level chip scale packaging integration. Staccato develops all-CMOS wireless USB chips.

Newport Media Targets Mobile TV
Lake Forest-based Newport Media, a firm developing semiconductors targeted at the mobile broadcast media market, said Monday that it has partnered with CyberLink for a fast TV switching solution. Newport Media and Cyberlink have combined their products to provide fast channel switching on mobile TV receivers. Newport Media develops mobile TV silicon that supports digital video broadcast, MediaFlo, and other protocols. CyberLink is a developer of technology for audio-video playback.

Continuous Computing Names CEO, New Board Member
San Diego-based Continuous Computing has named a new CEO, the firm announced today. Mike Dagenais has been named to the position, and will also become a board member for the firm. Dagenais was most recently CEO and President of Optical Solutions, and has served at Convergent Networks, Lucent, and Nortel. Continuous Computing also said that Ken Sawyer of Saints Capital has joined the firm's board of directors. Saints Capital is now listed as an investor in Continous Computing.
