Geni Enhances Collaboration Tools
West Hollywood-based family tree site Geni has rolled out a slew of updates for the service, saying today that it has added features to help users collaborate with others, map out locations, and see recent photos. Among the new features, the firm said it will now allow users to collaborate with others when building a family tree. AECOM Buys Savant
Los Angeles-based AECOM Technology Corporation, a provider of technical and management support services, said Friday afternoon that it has acquired Savant, a provider of project, cost, and construction management services in Europe. The firm did not disclose terms of the acquisition. AECOM said the move would expand its footprint in Russia, Eastern Europe, and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Entropic Sees Steep Drop In Revenues
San Diego-based Entropic Communications reported its results yesterday, saying that its net revenues fell to $24.1M, a drop of 18 percent from the fourth quarter of 2008, when it had revenues of $29.5M, and a 43% drop from the first quarter of 2008, when it reported $42.0M. The firm had a net loss of $8.7M. PhotoThera Gets $50M
Carlsbad-based PhotoThera, which is developing laser therapy for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke, said Thursday that it has raised $50M in a Series D round of financing. The round was led by Warburg Pincus, and also included The Vertical Group, Hamilton BioVentures, Delphi Ventures, DeNonov ventures, and individual members of Monterey Advisors, Inc. Internet Brands: 5 Websites For $1.6M
Looking to figure out how much your niche web site is worth? Los Angeles-based Internet Brands reported earlier this week in its quarterly results that it spent $1.6 million for the 5 vertical websites it purchased during the quarter. The firm announced earlier that it would take two of those sites and make them part of a new Money & Business vertical. Buy.com Launches Perfume Store
Aliso Viejo-based Buy.com reported this week that it has launched a new store selling fragrance products. According to the firm, the new store is being launched in conjunction with online fragrance retailer FragranceNet. Details of the business deal were not disclosed. The firm said the launch of the fragrance store is part of a plan to expand into a full health and beauty store, which will offer hair care, skin care, cosmetics, and other personal care products. Trident Space & Defense Opens UK Office
Torrance-based Trident Space & Defense, a provider of electronics for the space, military, and industrial markets, reported today that it has opened up a European office, based in Fareham, UK. The firm--which was formerly TRW Components International--said the new office will provide program management, engineering, and customer support for its European customers. Trident is owned by private equity firm Admiralty Partners.

Citysearch Launches Another Food Site
West Hollywood-based Citysearch has launched another dedicated vertical web site Thursday, saying it has created a new site, SugarBomber.com, which will provide photos and reviews of local providers of sweets and desserts. QLogic Buys NIC Firm
Aliso Viejo-based QLogic said Thursday afternoon that it has acquired NetXen, a maker of network interface cards (NIC). According to QLogic, it paid $21M in cash for the firm, which developers Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FcoE) adapters for the storage area networking market. NetXen was based in Cupertino, and was backed by Accel Partners, Benchmark Capital, DAG Ventures, and Integral Capital Partners.
