HauteLook Gains $10M
Los Angeles-based HauteLook, which operates a private shopping club, said this week that it has raised $10M in a venture round from Insight Venture Partners. According to the firm, the company operates private sales where it offers brands at 40-75 percent off retail prices. Jeff Lieberman of Insight will join the firm's board along with the funding. HauteLook's founders include Adam Bernhard, Brett Markinson, and Konstantin Glasmacher. The funding is the second announced for a private sale firm (More info...)

D-Link Ups Security On Routers
Saying that attacks on home and small office computers are compromising many networks, Fountain Valley-based networking hardware provider D-Link said today that it is adding a security scheme familiar to many Internet users -- CAPTCHA -- to its hardware. D-Link said that due to recent malicious attacks, which use a victim's wireless router to alter DNS records and divert web traffic, it has added new CAPTCHA security measure to its line of routers. NovaStor Sells Backup Operations
Simi Valley-based NovaStor, a developer of data backup software and related services, announced Tuesday that it has sold its offsite backup service business. According to NovaStor, it sold the service to Data Storage Corporation, one of the firm's partners, based in New York. Financial details of the sale were not disclosed. WebVisible Ties Into PC Mall
Irvine-based WebVisible, which provides online marketing for local businesses, said Tuesday that the firm has partnered with catalog retailer PC Mall. According to Webvisible, PC Mall will offer its web advertising programs through its online destination site for business services, MyBusinessMVP. Financial details of the partnership were not disclosed. WebVisible helps businesses market their products online, and is venture backed by Sutter Hill Ventures and Redpoint Ventures.

Aktino Acquired By Canadian Firm
Irvine-based Aktino, a developer of hardware for the telecom industry, has been acquired by a Canadian firm, Positron, Inc. The firms did not disclosed financial terms of the deal, however, said that Aktino will continue to operate from its Irvine location. Aktino develops carrier class, MIMO over Discrete Multitone (DMT) technology, which is used for Ethernet and DS3 over copper. High Density Networks Finds $1M
Los Angeles-based High Density Networks, a provider of Wi-Max and Internet access, announced late Monday that it has raised $1M in a funding round. According to the firm, the investment came from existing investor Certare Ventures and new CEO Barry Pier. High Density Networks said the new funding round will go to expand its customer base. Society6 Launches Site For Artists
Los Angeles-based Society6 is launching an online site to help artists find patrons today, saying that it has created a platform which will help artists share their work and exchange opportunities and resources. Quest Announces eDiscovery Software
Aliso Viejo-based Quest Software disclosed this morning that the firm is planning its own, e-discovery software, which it said it will launch in the third quarter of the year. E-discovery software is used by companies to store and manage documents and records in relation to legal actions. According to Quest, its e-Discovery Manager will help IT, HR, records managers, and legal investigations with collecting, reviewing, and exporting electronically stored information in-house. Twiistup Sold To New Owner
Twiistup, the popular Los Angeles technology showcase and networking event started by Mike Macadaan, is announcing today that the event has been sold to a undisclosed, private investor.
