Solarflare Promotes Engineering VP
Irvine-based Solarflare said late Friday that it has named a new, Senior Vice President of Engineering, Danny Shamlou. According to the firm, Shamlou will be responsible for all of the firm's engineering functions. Shamlou was most recently the firm's VP of VLSI Design, and has also served at Starport Systems, Mindspeed and Conexant. Lottay Gains Funding
Newbury Park-based Lottay, an online site focused on social "gifting" applications, has raised around $200,000 in a round from DFJ Frontier, socalTECH has learned. No details on the funding have been announced by the firm, however, DFJ Frontier now lists the company as a portfolio firm, and DFJ Frontier's David Cremin is listed as a board member at the company. Epic Sciences Raises $2.5M
San Diego-based Epic Sciences, a stealth mode startup which appears related to the Scripps Research Institute, has quietly raised $2.5M in a funding round. Epic is developing analytical laboratory instruments. The funding for the firm was disclosed through the PricewaterhouseCoopers/NVCA MoneyTree report earlier this week, based on data from Thomson Reuters. Epic Sciences' legal counsel is DLA Piper.

Neudesic Buys Sharepoint Hosting Firm
Irvine-based Neudesic, a systems integrator focused on Microsoft products, announced this week that it has acquired the hosting operations of Avitiva, a Seattle provider of Microsoft SharePoint hosting. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The firm said the acquisition will offer its clients customizable and managed SharePoint hosting, and that it would hire Avitiva's Chief Software Architect and team along with the buy. Autobytel Revenues Drop, But Losses Stabilize
Irvine-based Autobytel, which provides automotive information and an online lead referral business for automotive dealers, reported its results Thursday, reporting that it had revenues of $13.4M for Q2, down from $19.0M for Q2 of 2008. The firm had a net loss of $251,000. The firm said that it continued to see declines in its lead referral revenue, which was down 33% from the prior year, roughly matching the decline in U.S. light vehicle sales.
