Quartics Links With CyberLink
Irvine-based Quartics, the developer of video processor systems-on-a-chip backed by Safi Qureshey, said Tuesday that it has linked with CyberLink, a developer of DVD playing software on a partnership. The two said that they are demonstrating a product which combines Quartics Qvu system-on-a-chip with CyberLink's PowerDVD player software, which will improve both standard and high definition video content. Qureshey is best known as the founder of CEO of early PC maker AST.

ReachLocal Files For IPO
Woodland Hills-based ReachLocal filed for an IPO this morning, saying that it is looking to raise up to $100M. The firm's IPO is being underwritten by J.P. Morgan, BofA Merrill Lynch, citi, Piper Jaffray, Needham & Company, and Broadpoint.Gleacher. Accoriding to ReachLocal, it had net income of $11.6M on revenues of $143M for the nine month ended September 30th. For 2008, the firm had a net loss of almost $7M on revenues of $146.68M. RealD: Behind 50 Percent of Domestic Avatar Take
Los Angeles-based RealD, a developer of 3D movie projection technology, said last night that the firm's 3D technology was behind over 50 percent of the weekend domestic gross on Twentieth Century Fox's AVATAR film. The firm said its screens brought in nearly $40M of the total domestic box office from the James Cameron film. RealD develops 3D projection technology for digital theaters. AVATAR had a $242.5M opening weekend.

SolarReserve In Deal with NV Energy
Santa Monica-based SolarReserve, a developer of utility-scale solar power projects, announced today that the firm has inked a 25-year, power purchase agreement (PPA) with NV Energy. The firm said the deal will supply approximately 480,000 megawatt hours annually from its 100-megawatt, Tonopah Solar Energy project being developed near Tonopah, Nevada.
