Fisker Gets Approval On $529M Loan From DOE
The Department of Energy said Friday that it has approved a $529M loan to Irvine-based Fisker Automotive, as part of the US Department of Energy's $25-billion Advanced Technologies Vehicle Manufacturing Loan Program. Fisker, which is developing plug-in hybrid electric cars, said the funding will go to develop affordable, plug-in hybrids made in the USA. Report: V-Vehicle Working On Plastic Cars
San Diego-based V-Vehicle the stealthy developer of alternative automobile technology, has reported started to provide more details of its products to state officials in Louisiana. According to a report from the Baton Rouge Advocate, V-Vehicle is working on plastic cars, which do not use steel, instead using composite panels and plastic for the body. MakeItWork Signs Radio Syndication Deal
Santa Barbara-based Make It Work said today that it has signed a national syndication agreement with Envision Radio Networks, which will make the firm's technology radio show available to radio stations nationwide. According to Make It Work, the firm's Make It Work program--which currently runs on KSFO 560 in San Francisco--will be extended to two hours, and will be available in other markets. Kofax Wins Health Insurer
Irvine-based Kofax reported earlier this week that it has won a health insurance firm, in a deal worth over $200,000. The provider of document capture solutions did not name the customer. Kofax said the customer is a provider of health, long term care, and dental insurance products and services, and will be implementing its Kofax Capture and Kofax Transformation Modules.

Surfware Gets Patent
Camarillo-based Surfware, a developer of computer aided manufacturing (CAM) software, said this week that it has received a patent on its technology. The firm said it was recently awarded U.S. patent number 7,577,490 for its Engagement Milling technology, which covers the firm's TRUEmill CAM technology. According to the US Patent and Trademark office, the patent was actually granted last August.
