SoCal Investor Benefits From Fabrinet IPO
A little known Southern California venture capital investor is benefiting from the IPO of Silicon Valley-based Fabrinet today, after Fabrinet said it has priced its IPO and will list on the New York Stock Exchange. According to Fabrinet's S-1, one of the major shareholders of the firm is actually Walnut, California-based Shea Ventures, a venture capital firm attached to home builder and construction firm J.F. Sony Online Entertainment: 12 Million Players In Free Realms
San Diego-based massively multiplayer, online gaming developer Sony Online Entertainment reports today that it has just reached 12 million registered users for its title Free Realms. Free Realms is a family-friendly virtual world focused on "quests, activities and minigames". The firm said that the milestone was reached as part of the kickoff of a "virtual summer camp" effort which features virtual versions of a number of traditional summer activities, including going to the beach and camp. Kotura Advances High Speed Optoelectronics Technology
Monterey Park-based Kotura, a developer of high speed optoelectronics products, said this week that it has demonstrated a high-speed horizontal p-i-n germanium photo detector integrated with silicon waveguides on a single chip, based on a project developed with DARPA. According to the firm, the technology is a "key component" for optical interconnects and may lead to reduction in complexity of connectors and cabling in high performance optical systems.
