RealPractice Launches Legal Tools Site
Santa Ana-based RealPractice said today, along with four other partners, that it has launched a new, bundled solution called LawyerToolbox, which provides a set of tools aimed at legal litigators. According to RealPractice, LawyerToolbox includes its own services, as well as services from such firms as Wolters Kluwer Law & Business, Deadlines On Demand, Nationwide Legal, Informative Graphics. Amonix Supplies Giant Solar Power Generating Project In Colorado
Torrance-based concentrating photovoltaic solar power firm Amonix looks to be a major winner in the announcement today that Cogentrix Energy will build a 30,000 kilowatt solar generating project in southern Colorado. According to Cogentrix Energy, it has inked a deal with Public Service Company of Colorado (PSCo), an Xcel Energy company, for the solar generating project--expected to be the largest concentrating photovoltaic solar power generation facility in the world. Demand Media: $56.3M for Pluck, $5.0M For The Daily Plate
The price of two of Demand Media's acquisitions, Pluck, and The Daily Plate, have both been made public with the firm's IPO filing Friday evening. According to the S-1, Demand paid $56.3M for Pluck, a developer of social media tools, and paid $5.0M for The Daily Plate, a online diet and calorie tracking website. The firm also revealed that it acquired Pagewise, a provider of how-to videos and text articles, for $15.8M, back in June of 2007. My Damn Channel Raises $4.4M
Los Angeles-based My Damn Channel, an online site which features professionally produced, humorous and other video content, announced a $4.4M funding round today. The new funding was led by Intuitive Venture Partners, and also included prior investors Okapi Venture Capital and Sunshine Wireless Company. Demand Media Files For IPO
Santa Monica-based Demand Media, the online media firm run by Richard Rosenblatt, has finally filed for its long awaited IPO. According to the firm's filing, filed late Friday, the firm is looking to raised up to $125M in its IPO. The firm's IPO is being underwritten by Goldman, Sachs & Co., Morgan Stanley, UBS Investment Bank, Allen & Company LLC, Jefferies & Company, Stifel Nicolaus Weisel, RBC Capital Markets, Pacific Crest Securities, Raine Securities, and JMP Securities. Gorilla Nation Wins Premiere.com
Los Angeles-based Gorilla Nation, which provides advertising representation to mid-sized online publishers, announced today that it has been selected by Premiere.com, an online site focused on movie enthusiasts. Premiere.com is owned by Hachette Filipacchi Media (HFM U.S.). Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. The deal includes ad invesntory for the U.S., UK, and Australia. JustDeals.com Takes On Consumer Electronics Flash Sales
Chatsworth-based JustDeals.com said today that it has launched a new, consumer electronics flash shopping site. According to the firm, it was founded by Frank Jadhavji, and will provide flash sales of overstock and excess inventories from manufacturers such as Pentax, Polaroid, Sony, Olympus, Ray-O-Vac, Duracell, Vivitar and Philips Electronics. Tech Coast Angels Taps Vokle For Webcasts
The Tech Coast Angels said today that it is tapping Vokle, one of the group's portfolio companies, to stream a new series of "Meet the Angels and VCs" webcasts. According to the group, which says it is the nation's largest angel investment network, it will provide live, streaming video conferences targeted at helping entrepreneurs. Qlipso Integrates Into Veoh.com After Acquisition
Los Angeles- and Israel-based Qlipso, a developer of online video sharing and editing tools, announced this morning that it has integrated its service into Veoh.com, after its acquisition of substantially all of the assets of Veoh.com. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The sale had earlier been reported in April. WiSpry Finds New Worldwide Sales Head
Irvine-based WiSpry announced this morning that it has hired a new Vice President of Worldwide Sales. The firm said it has named Brian Hurst, most recently VP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for Peregrine Semiconductor, to the position. Hurst has also worked at ANADIGICS, Cyrix, Transmeta Corporation, National Semiconductor and Intel.

Vitesse Adds To Board
Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor, a developer of semiconductors for the carrier and enterprise markets, has added G. William LaRosa to its board of directors. According to the firm, LaRosa is the CEO of G.W. LaRosa & Associates LLC, a sales and business development firm. He also has served at Lead Group International (LGI), General Electric, IBM, and Advanced Micro Devices.
