San Diego Clean Technology CEOs Line Up Against Proposition 23
The fight over Proposition 23, the California referendum coming to the polls to overturn AB32, has more backers today, from a group of 30 San Diego CEOs. According to The Green Chamber of San Diego County and those CEOs, they are urging San Diegans to vote no on Proposition 23, saying that the effort to repeal the state's Clean Energy Law would be "be harmful at best and devastating at worst" to its business community, neighborhoods, and the California economy. FlexEnergy Buys Ingersoll Rand's Energy Systems Business
Irvine-based FlexEnergy, a clean technology developer which is developing systems which convert methane into clean power, has acquired the Energy Systems business of Ingersoll Rand. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Ingersoll Rand's energy systems business develops microturbine technology. As part of the acquisition, Ingersoll Rand becomes a minority shareholder of FlexEnergy. GameSalad Boosts Users
Los Angeles- and Austin-based GameSalad, the developer of software tools for creating iPhone and other Apple iOS games, said this week that it has had its most successful week ever for the company, signing up more than 1,200 new users in the past week or so. The firm said the signups came after its launch of GameSalad Direct, the firm's Apple iOS publishing service. Clarient Acquired By GE Healthcare For $580M
Aliso Viejo-based Clarient, a developer of cancer diagnostic tools, is being acquired by GE Healthcare in a deal worth $580M. According to GE Healthcare, which is a unit of General Electric, it will pay $5.00 per common share or $20.00 per preferred share in cash for Clarient. Clarient is a maker of molecular diagnostics tools used to diagnose and characterize cancer. GE Healthcare said the buy will "strongly enhance" its current diagnostic and life science offerings. Novatel Extends MiFi Distribution
San Diego-based Novatel said yesterday that it has extended the distribution of its MiFi personal hotspot product, and is now deploying the device through KDDI Corporation in Japan as a rental. According to Novatel, KDDI is offering up its MiFi 2372 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot as a rental service, for both Japanese consumers and business travelers.
